FIGUEIREDO, Luís Claudio. Being a psychoanalyst: Kind of a crazy job. Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2019, n.52, pp. 173-179. ISSN 0100-3437.

This reflection on the job of psychoanalyst was inspired by J. D. Salinger's novel The Catcher in the Rye , which recounts the irreverence, instability and critique of the adult world by an American teenager in the 1940s. The text relates certain fantasies of this teenager to the ideas Christopher Bollas developed in his book Catch them before they fall (2013) about the care of patients in extreme suffering; from then on, it makes considerations about the place of ambition and omnipotence, but also the necessary modesty of psychoanalysts in their practices. The work makes references to the Freudo-Kleinian matrix and to Wilfred Bion to talk about the analytical activity, and also to what extent the analyst needs to have infantile, immature and unconscious characteristics.

Palavras-chave : Analyst involved; Reserved analyst; Psychic illness; Clinical practices.
