Abstract

JUNIOR, Dorivaldo Pantoja Borges  and  CECCARELLI, Paulo Roberto. A psychoanalytic study on mythological losses and ethnocide from the documentary "Ex-Shaman". Estud. psicanal. [online]. 2020, n.53, pp. 85-90. ISSN 0100-3437.

The aim of this study was to investigate the psychic consequences of the mythological losses experienced by the Pater-Suruí tribe, especially by Perpera, the shaman. For this, we rely on the analysis of the documentary “ Ex-Shaman” (2018), directed by Luiz Bolognesi. Anthropological contributions on the phenomenon of ethnocide, we broaden our investigation. From the analysis, it was observed that, with the arrival of the “non-Indian”, the spiritual manifestations of the tribe were repressed, devalued, and replaced by other values. The new values, however, aroused collective and individual helplessness due to the loss of identity references, which led to the return of the group's old constitutive practices. It was concluded that if, on the one hand, the “mythological shock” has a disorganizing effect, on the other hand, the retrieval of the identifying references of the origins restores the original drive circulation.
