Abstract

This paper aims to approach the phenomenon of contemporary fundamentalisms according to Freud's book "Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego" (FREUD, 1921). Based on the mass identification process pointed out by Freud, we think that certain types of identificatory behaviors seem to create a path in which a group, when fighting for an ideal or belief, denies the external reality. But it is the external reality where this same ideal or belief was forged. Or yet, it seems that the unconscious identifications gain strength in the group in such a way that that group of people regresses and fixates in the oral phase, through the child omnipotence and voracity, a kind of dream delirium and consequent denial of castration.
