Abstract

The author basis the essay of D. Meltzer (1984) to address issues such as language function and the genesis of language and also to outline what psychoanalysis understands as language. It brings to life a debate between two methodological spectres of linguistics, namely the bodymind issue by Skinner, Chomsky, Katz and the matter of the "cosmic mystic" of Whorf and Sapir. The author describes about language development in children and emphasizes the relation between language and image, illustrating with a poem.
