FRANCO FILHO, Odilon de Mello. The eclipse of divinity and psychoanalysis. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2007, vol.30, n.44, pp. 114-118. ISSN 0101-3106.

This work is based on Richard Elliot Friedman’s essay, The disappearance of God: A divine mystery. In this essay, Friedman makes a reading of Biblical passages, considering that they are connected by a main idea that refers to a God that, initially, is very close to men’s everyday life but, in the end, keeps away from their direct contact. This development suggests to the author that "divinity" and "sacredness" are in constant conflict. The "disappearance" of God, on the other hand, is man’s opportunity to get hold of his own nature as a creature. Our text makes a parallel between this conflict and man’s situation in face of the unconscious, in other words, with those "occult" forces that determine what he is and with which he is in constant conflict.
