I compare the thoughts of Ferenczi and Freud to the difference between Vienna and Budapest. I choose the letter of June 26, 1914, as it appears to be indicative of the ruling atmosphere among psychoanalysts, who were totally involved in their own visceral struggles, in spite of the traumatic event of the day − the murder of the Austrian archduke.
