Resumen

FRAYZE-PEREIRA, João A.. Art and envy: relations between love and hate, clinic and politics in the era of emptiness. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2011, vol.34, n.52, pp. 157-171. ISSN 0101-3106.

The motive for writing this article has arisen from the analyses I usually make of some artists in which I observed expressions of envy and its implications in the creative process they developed. Considering the main characteristics of contemporary culture that, since the work of Lipovetsky (2005), has been known as the “emptiness era”, it is interrogated the possibility of the art, expression of love, manifestation of life’s instinct, to constitute a tension field with envy which is manifestation of death’s instinct, a sterilizing feeling of curiosity and one of the determinants of psychic indigence of our time. Having in sight this context, it is revealed the political dimension of art and psychoanalytical clinic.

Palabras clave : Envy; Contemporary art; Emptiness era; Triviality of evil; Psychoanalytical clinic.
