Abstract

BRACCO, Mariangela Kamnitzer. Finally Freud speaks Portuguese. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2011, vol.34, n.52, pp. 260-267. ISSN 0101-3106.

For a long time we had to make do with poor translations of Freud’s work into Portuguese. However, this has now changed as we have recently had the pleasure of being presented with two excellent translations made directly from German, by Luiz Alberto Hanns and Paulo César de Souza, published by Imago and Companhia das Letras. This is a major event for all Freud´s readers that can now benefit from the clarity of his thought and the elegance of his style. The author of this article makes a historical retrospective following the Freud’s writings from Viena to Brazil. She also describes briefly the characteristics of the new translations which are still in the making.

Keywords : History of translation; Freud’s translation; Luiz Alberto Hanns; Paulo César de Souza; Marilene Carone.
