Abstract

The work is inspired by a story of Machado de Assis in relation to Noah’s ark, tracing its relevance to the discussion on the feasibility of the goals of analytical work, which implies hard and long way to freedom. The rearrangements that Freud realizes in his theories about self, anxiety and symptom, emphasize the psychic elasticity, while warning us of the increasing deviations of subjects to various forms of joy and subjection to which culture offers several outlets.
