The theme of alterity is approached according to its occurrence in the Freudian work A case of demonic neurosis in the seventeenth century (1922), and confronted to the theoretical contributions of thinkers like André Green and Marcuse, among others. The art, often linked to a Faustian pact, is seen as the bearer of alterity in a society.
