Abstract

GODOY, Luciana Bertini. Robert Mapplethorpe: body in exhibition. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2016, vol.39, n.62, pp. 61-76. ISSN 0101-3106.

Starting with a scene witnessed in the exhibition Mapplethorpe, which took place in São Paulo in 1997, the article intends to reflect on the artist's work, especially on the aesthetic reception of his images by the average public. Several authors (Celant, Fabris, Danto) discuss this work under different perspectives and allow us to penetrate to the question of main interest: how is it possible that images of naked or half-naked men and women, in explicit sadomasochistic and homosexual activities, become invisible in the exhibition that unites them exactly to show them?

Keywords : Photography; Mapplethorpe; Aesthetic reception; Psychoanalysis.
