Resumen

ARANTES, Urias. Anne-Joseph Terwaigne, otherwise known as Théroigne de Méricourt (1762- 1817): revolution and madness. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.63, pp. 201-216. ISSN 0101-3106.

Elisabeth Roudinesco's distinguished study of Théroigne de Méricourt called attention to the possibility of a new understanding of the origins of modern feminism, enriched by the contribution of psychoanalysis. Reestablishing the facts, and proposing an innovative interpretation of Théroigne's madness, Roudinesco criticises preconceived ideas and historical illusions. Her teaching paves the way for new questions about the origins of French feminisms, modern democracy, psychiatry and even psychoanalysis itself.

Palabras clave : 1789 Revolution; Feminism; Madness; Democracy.
