Williams found a criminal, the ancient mariner; he then decides to investigate Coleridge's biography. In it he finds many an element leading him to identify some aspects of the ancient mariner in Coleridge. According to Williams, with the creation of this poem, Coleridge would have elaborated or sublimzed his homicide tendency.
