Abstract

CINTRA, Elisa Maria de Ulhôa. Envy and creativity - the geography of the mother's body. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.65, pp. 23-38. ISSN 0101-3106.

This article is about envy, desire and creativity: it aims to elucidate the notion of primary envy in the work of Melanie Klein. Short clinical stories from the works of Klein, Winnicott and Anne Alvarez are presented. These clinical examples are worked through so as to estimate the importance of the relationship to the mother's body as a place of origin, of enigma and of the origin of the other babies. It is the starting point of the desire to know more and it will be considered as the first horizon of the outer world. The first spatial conceptions are created out from the baby's relationship to its mother's body - leading to what Melanie Klein called the geography of the mother's body.

Keywords : The geography of the mother's body; Winnicott; Anne Alvarez.
