The article studies the metapsychology of envy. The kleinian notion of innate envy is criticized. The study presents the implications of this way of thinking envy both in the clinic and in the use of psychoanalysis as a tool to think the social context. The importance of including envy in the list of psychoanalytic concepts is emphasized, but it is pointed the risks of its use as supports to the maintenance of a biological and conservative view of human being.
