This text is a psychoanalytic investigation of the gallows humor. Starting from the question: why did Freud favor this form of humor? It revisits, then, the examples and the metapsychological elaborations on the subject. And, having pursued the course, it proposes a definition: the gallows humor is the rescue of the power of the word on the eve of its disappearance; there is in it the disassembly of destiny through the affirmation of the pleasure principle.
