Abstract

BERGER, Rebeca Léa. The fate of the body. Our daily aging... "day after day". Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.67-68, pp. 203-212. ISSN 0101-3106.

We are aging under new conditions of longevity, and therefore we have new experiences to confront with. The advance of medicine which brings solutions to diseases and body aches brings the extension of our chronological time - the postponement of body's destiny. It is time to reflect on how to advance in our knowledge to accept the reality of the finitude of life, however much it extends. It is time to learn, as humanity, to know how to bestow dignity and comfort on the last stages and processes of existence, just as we have learned in the last century, as humanity, to take care of the beginning of life and to take care of the passage from childhood to adulthood. Biological processes imply changes in vigor and physical strength, and these changes manifest in the dynamics of relationships, psychic and cognitive characteristics, and the final stages of existence have been marked till nowadays by much psychic suffering. Thinking of aging processes as singular and vital processes, considering the mind-body connection as a functional unit can be a starting point for the questions of the human and his subjectivity.

Keywords : Aging; Bioenergetic analysis; Grounding; Narcissism.
