Abstract

CARRIJO, Christiane; LIMA, Camael Gomes de  and  FREITAS, George Miguel Thisoteine Caldeira Menezes. The surrealism of the film The Golden Age: a psychoanalytic reading. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.67-68, pp. 221-230. ISSN 0101-3106.

The relationship between psychoanalysis and cinema is discussed from the images and narrative of the film The Golden Age, by Luis Buñuel, since it produces a series of oddities and brings the dimension of the spectator to the scene of interpretation. The psychoanalytic discourse opens the possibility of reflection on the film, but without limiting the art work to a single interpretation of the material appreciated - we want to emphasize the dimension of the experience of the subject submitted to the film. The rupture of the image’s linear logic, present in the surrealistic film production, helps to highlight the signifiers and the irrational dimension, that are essential for psychoanalysis.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Surrealism; Cinema; Helplessness; Violence.
