In this paper, we discuss passages from the history of psychoanalysis to highlight some of the main facts that marked its approach to cinema and the subsequent repercussions of this encounter in the creation of a new field for the investigation of cultural formations. We highlight the episode of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's famous Hollywood producer, Samuel Goldwyn's invitation to Sigmund Freud, so that the creator of psychoanalysis would serve as consultant in the development of screenplays about the love lives of great historical characters.
