MELEGA, Marisa Pelella. Apprehension of beauty and aesthetic conflict. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2020, vol.42, n.70, pp. 215-224. ISSN 0101-3106.

This text was generated from several contributions by D. Meltzer and Meg H. Williams and several personal contacts with both authors, who were building a solid stage to show that psychoanalysis is an art form! The journey began with Meltzer's contribution to understanding the formation of symbols and the individual's creativity in "Beyond awareness" and continued with The apprehension of beauty. The initial impact of the mother's external beauty - understood as the aesthetic object - leads to the desire to know her inner qualities, which initiates the aesthetic conflict. How this concept can be used in the psychoanalyst's clinic is a question that we seek to answer in this text. We continue to inquire about psychoanalysis as an art form and we use Meltzer's formulation, which understands the analytical process as an aesthetic object. Finally, we tried to approach the differences between the symbols created during the analytical session and the symbols created by the artist, bringing as examples some poems by Eugenio Montale.
