Abstract

CASTELO FILHO, Claudio. The epic of the hero or prophet sent by the gods to an ordinary mortal who practices his profession: the religion and the religiosity that permeates psychoanalytic practices. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.73, pp. 25-38. ISSN 0101-3106.

Based on his clinical experience, the author discusses the entrenchment of moral-religious ideas in psychoanalytic practice, of which he should not be a part, since it is a scientific investigative activity. He observes the professional and theoretical posture of several psychoanalysts who confuse their practice with that of a superior creature who supposedly perceives himself or presents himself as being above common human issues, sensual carnality, pettiness and human limitations. Thus, they tend to view their analysands as psychopathology textbooks. In matters related to sexuality, they do not observe the diversity of human possibilities in this field and thus do not distinguish scientific theory and clinical practice from a priestly, "correctional" and, often, hypocritical activity. Just as prophets or envoys from Olympus watch from above and criticize lesser mortals with disdain. An effective and deep personal analysis from the postulant to the analyst is evidenced as a decisive factor for him to make his passage from the herald of the gods to the earth plane of ordinary mortals. In it, he will have to go through all the turbulences of that Mediterranean, like Odysseus and Aeneas, who even needed to enter and leave Hades to reach the land that was their own.

Keywords : epic; hero; moral; religion; psychoanalysis.
