Nowadays, the idea of diagnosis in psychoanalysis has become suspicious. As often as not, psychoanalysts relate situations which cannot be classified by traditional psychoanalytical theories and that have, therefore, been overlooked. We would like to make considerations about new ideas that some psychoanalysts have developed in order to understand human suffering. We think that today some people deal with Alterity in a different way than they used to in the past. That point interferes in psychoanalytical treatment in a radical way, making psychoanalysts decide which orientation each particular treatment must have: if they will strive for balance and insertion in the social bond or if they are going to work searching for the unconscious meaning through interpretation.
