Abstract

The author's objective is to discuss a tendency that seems to her current among psychoanalysts: the cession of the psychoanalytic field to neurosciences, as if it lacked its own foundations. Taking Gerard Pommier's book Comment les neurosciences démontrent la psychanalyse as a paradigm of this reductionist position, the author criticizes it. To consider that neurology could explain the psychic represents not only a reduction of psychoanalytic knowledge as such, but an impoverishment of the Freudian concept of unconscious, which is thus provided with a physical existence: "the mental".
