Abstract

CHRISTAKI, Angélique. Mother language: trauma and transmission.Translated byThyago do Valle Rosa. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2012, vol.44, n.1, pp. 27-35. ISSN 0101-4838.

The maternal tongue is, at the same time, a constituent encounter of the subject and a place of transmission. In the cases in which this tongue is forgotten, lost or, yet, where it is lived as a "no place" - due to situations of extreme violence -, which place would remain for transmission and which destiny for the trauma? Which are the destinies of speech, in situations where the maternal tongue transmits the law of silence as the trace of an unexpected and unspeakable violence? More exactly, this article is a reflection on the specificity of the clinical work with a Cambodian child, whose parents grew inside a concentration camp of Red Khmers.

Keywords : maternal tongue; silence; violence; transmission; transfer.
