Abstract

FERRARI, Andrea Gabriela. Child's symptom, an update on parental constitution?. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2012, vol.44, n.2, pp. 299-319. ISSN 0101-4838.

Psychoanalysis with children, since the beginning, discusses the parent's importance in their child's treatment. The influence they exercise in the child's psychic constitution is evident and for a long time it has been questioned, between psychoanalysis' different pers pectives, about the need to study what the parents have to say regarding the symptomatolo gy the child presents. In this article we make a theoretical discussion about what the child's symptom activates and updates in the parents' constitutive process. In this sense, the article addresses the possibility that some of the child's symptoms become a structuring aspect of the parents' psyche. It intends, with this, to situate the parents' suffering in the face of the demand for care of the child, and in the face of the child's symptomatology.

Keywords : children psychoanalysis; symptom; demand for care; preliminary interviews.
