Abstract

One main question emerges while working with patients presenting diverse so matic symptoms: does it exist a specific psychological approach for somatic diseases? Often, somatic symptoms are understood with notions like: body image, body uncons cious image, psychosomatic patients, psychosomatic manifestations, or psychosomatic phenomenon. In other words, many different notions keeping us away from Freud's proposition on the interpretation of body symptoms. This confusion is quite old: within psychoanalytic theory construction, the body was at the origin of various theoretical debates and divergences. This text constitutes a re-opening of those debates around body questions.
