Abstract

BELO, Fábio  and  SCODELER, Kátia. The importance of play in Winnicott and Schiller. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2013, vol.45, n.1, pp. 91-101. ISSN 0101-4838.

This article presents the similarities between the conceptualization of play-drive and play in Schiller and the theory of play by Winnicott and its application to psychoanalysis. Winnicott says that it is only by playing that children or adults can fully enjoy their personality. In the same way, Schiller's philosophy of aesthetics affirms play-drive to be the transitional stage able to accommodate the game between the two existing forces in man - the sensible and the rational - and, in that way, to harmonize them so that it enables man to be a complete man. We conclude for the resemblance between the two author's thoughts, not necessarily to propose a genealogy, but to make explicit important points in Winnicott's thought and to question about possible links between German Romanticism and Winnicott's theory.

Keywords : Schiller; Winnicott; to play.
