Abstract

FROES, Henrique  and  VIANA, Terezinha de Camargo. The notions of unconscious derived from the defense theory: first freudian elaborations. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2013, vol.45, n.2, pp. 267-285. ISSN 0101-4838.

This article analyzes the changes that the notion of the unconscious went through in Freud's first works due to the introduction of the concept of repression. Based on the model of the division of the consciousness taken from the first dynamic psychiatry, Freud introduces significant changes on the understanding of the mechanisms that create the "second consciousness" and their pathologic action. He also determinates the sexual character of the material that originates the unconscious. This article also shows how the change in the therapeutic techniques and the formulation of the concept of resistance lead Freud to abandon the model of the division of the consciousness and to conceive the first psychological model of psychoanalytic history.

Keywords : unconscious; Freud; hysteria; history.
