Resumen

VIANNA, Alexandra de Gouvêa. The alliance of the superego with the death drive in drug use. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2014, vol.46, n.2, pp. 299-314. ISSN 0101-4838.

This paper presents a study of the compulsive use of drugs from a psychoanalytical point of view, emphasizing the implication of the subject in his drug addiction. We seek to understand the transition between a recreational use to a destructive use and also demonstrate that in severe cases of drug addiction denounce the search for the ruin of himself. To study the paradox of this mechanism that finds satisfaction while causes suffering through the concept of the death drive introduced by Freud in 1920. From the point of view of metapsychology, this mechanism goes beyond the pleasure principle, because it contradicts its goal of conserving the psychic apparatus free of tension, keeping constant the amount of excitement that circulates in it or reducing it to a minimum. The addiction does not respect the pleasure principle and pushes the subject to his own disgrace. When the death drive prevails, the subject suffers for failing to put a brake on it.
