Abstract

ARAUJO, Ronaldo Sales de  and  LIMA, Nádia Laguárdia de. The psychoanalytic clinic in hospital with women in breast cancer treatment. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.47, n.2, pp. 90-102. ISSN 0101-4838.

This work addresses the effects of mastectomy surgery on women in outpatient care at hospitals. It particularly analyzes the effects of such a medical intervention in body image. It highlights a common fact to all patients that were seen in the ambulatory care facility, which is the absence of death as a subject in their speech, even in more advanced cases of the disease. They approach mainly the topic of beauty, associating it with femininity. For those women, breast mutilation caused a confrontation with reality, arousing the feeling of anguish. Drawing from the contribution of Lacan, this article discusses the function of the beautiful in building a protective barrier in relation to the Thing, allowing the bearing of the tragic.

Keywords : body; body image; beautiful; look; female sexuality.
