Abstract

BRACKS, Mayana  and  CALAZANS, Roberto. The diagnostic question and its implication in the automatic epidemic. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2018, vol.50, n.2, pp. 51-76. ISSN 0101-4838.

This article aimed to present a debate about the diagnostic issue of autism and its implication in the supposed epidemic of autism wich is the main consequence of the understanding of the autisms as disability from normative perspectives as the Dianostic Manual diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, DSM. We highlight the diagnostic issue of autism, so it allows us to shed light on a debate that surpasses the academic milieu and a population in general through contemporary media. We seek to present how the media devices approach and transmit the matter of autism as well as autism appears in academic narratives giving support to media devices. For this purpose we had as a guide the psychoanalytic theory that shows itself in a different direction from the notion of deficient autism, we took into consideration the ethical and epistemic aspects of psychoanalysis that seek to work with the singularity instead of the disability. Therefore we seek to answer a very important that deserves to be highlighted in the debate: is autism a clinical issue or a diagnostic category?

Keywords : autism; diagnosis; epidemic; psychoanalysis.
