Abstract

DOMINGUEZ, Juan Pablo Sánchez. Psychoanalysis and its object of investigation. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2019, vol.51, n.1, pp. 259-287. ISSN 0101-4838.

This article proposes to identify the scientific context in which psychoanalysis arose, analysing the first Freudian ideas intended to place his discoveries at the service of the natural sciences. Next, it examines the formulations contained in the project of a "Psychology for Neurologists" which enabled Freud to position himself at a distance from the scientific ideal of his era. Meanwhile, guided by Lacan's lecture on the "Cartesian cogito", it studies the objectivist rationality of so-called modern science, which aims to strip researchers of subjective elements via a rational strategy when they approach their object of study. Finally, it uses Lacanian concepts to argue the radical difference between the object of investigation in psychoanalysis and in science.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; method; object; science.
