Abstract

ZANOLA, Pedro Costa  and  LUSTOZA, Rosane Zétola. Alienation and separation in Seminar 11 of Lacan: a proposal of interpretation. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2019, vol.51, n.2, pp. 121-139. ISSN 0101-4838.

This article proposes an interpretative study of the operations of alienation and separation, as presented by Lacan in the seminar The four fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis, with special emphasis to the Lacanian assertion that separation would imply into a return of the alienation. This question led us to delineate two distinct concepts of alienation: the root of alienation, which describes how the subject arises in the symbolic field as marked by a radical lack of essence, where the subjectivity is caused by a primordial loss of the being; there is also a second meaning, the return of alienation, which is consolidated after the separation, in which the subjectivity is fixed in its position as object in front of the Other's desire. Lacan will also define an additional separation that should be produced in the end of an analysis. This process will be known as the crossing of the fantasy, indicating a final separation, allowing the subject to separate from the second presented meaning of the alienation, encountering the emptiness as cause of desire beyond its fixations.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; Lacan; alienation; separation; division of the subjectivity.
