Abstract

BASSO, Fernando; WEINMANN, Amadeu de Oliveira  and  MANO, Gustavo Caetano de Mattos. The topicality of Hello Brasil!: problematization on paternal function and Brazilian culture. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2020, vol.52, n.2, pp. 103-126. ISSN 0101-4838.

This paper aims to examine the topicality of Hello Brasil!, book written by psychoanalyst Contardo Calligaris, published for the first time in 1991 and reissued in 2017. Adopting a critical approach, we intend to show the context in which the book was produced, highlight its mains ideas, indicate its stronger points, point out its connections with other works and identify its theoretical boundaries. From these analyzes, situated in the domain of psychoanalytic interpretations about Brazilian culture, we postulate that Hello Brasil! is sustained on the hypothesis of a "paternal deficit" and on the "One" of paternal function. Such a theoretical scheme requires that the concept "paternal function" be rigorously resumed as an operator on cultural analysis.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; interpretation; paternal function; Brazilian culture.
