Abstract

GARRIT, Marcio  and  RUDGE, Ana Maria. Freud: from myth to culture. Tempo psicanal. [online]. 2021, vol.53, n.2, pp. 6-20. ISSN 0101-4838.

The purpose of this article is to discuss Freud's myth about the foundation of culture. It is in Totem and Tabu (1913) that the father of psychoanalysis undertakes a construction, based on findings from his clinical practice and psychoanalytic concepts and, without dispensing support in anthropological works, presents a conception on the bases on which civilization rests. Its importance is to be the first incursion of psychoanalysis in what it is called today, by some authors, psychoanalytic anthropology, that is, a psychoanalytic study of culture, although others consider, in view of the diverse methodology that characterizes the two fields, that it is metapsychology.

Keywords : Culture; myth; neurosis; subject; taboo.
