Abstract

This article brings an overview of Freud’s Totem and Taboo, with the purpose of underlining the historical importance of such book as the beginner of psychoanalytic research on the social field. We also intend to make clearer the process through which the father function appears in this book as the fundament of law and of society as a whole.
