MENDES, Eliana Rodrigues Pereira. Macbeth, between ideal and ambition. Reverso [online]. 2006, vol.28, n.53, pp. 97-105. ISSN 0102-7395.

Freud has read Shakespeare with passion. Among the several characters-types that Freud considered with high interest is Mac-beth, worked through his article "Those Wrecked by Success". The author presents how Freud read this play and also Harold Bloom's (famous contemporaneous critic of literature) comments on it. Following that, she states her own point of view about Macbeth, showing his tension between the ideal, that is transgenerational and is linked to desire and life pulsion and the ambition, that is at the side of enjoyment and death pulsion. She ends up with an analogy of the new wrecked by success, in the contemporary Brazilian politics.

Palavras-chave : Ideal; Desire; Life pulsion; Ambition; Enjoyment; Death pulsion.
