Abstract

From the investigation of the concept of sublimation throughout Freud's work, the author articulates the idea according to which the cultural value attached to sublimatory instinctual vicissitude is closely related to the character of instinctual asexual goals. In order to treat this enigmatic passage, the author works the paradoxical dimension of instinct's satisfaction from the Freudian text Instincts and their Vicissitudes up to Lacan's formulation on the object a. Sublimation is understood as that which gives Trieb a different way of satisfaction from its target linking it to the notion of das Ding.
