Abstract

PAULA, Ana Paula Paes de. Jackson Pollock: psychosis manic-depressive, body and creation. Reverso [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.72, pp. 73-78. ISSN 0102-7395.

In this essay, I analyze the psyche of Jackson Pollock from some elements of his life story as well as his painting technique and creation. It is observed in this artist the unique relationship that the melancholic has with the body, which is the object of love and also hate. In a hypomanic inspiration that leads to action painting, the body is the place of perfection and the ineffable well-being: is the work of integrated art to painting itself. Exploring Benjamin’s and Lacan’s thoughts, I intend to reveal the relationship between the artist’s work and these manifestations of his psychic life.

Keywords : Psychosis; Melancholy; Body.
