This essay aims to theoretically explore the condition of melancholy as a clinical structure from a psychoanalytic standpoint. Based on the book "Psicose e laço social" by Antonio Quinet (2006), the main characteristics of this phenomenon will be presented here, along with what was understood by other authors who have worked these ideas before. Moving from Freud to Lacan, it will be possible to understand the reasons which allow melancholy to be tagged as a psychotic structure.
