Abstract

FUKS, Betty Bernardo. The freudian ideas on intolerance. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.1, pp. 59-73. ISSN 0103-5665.

From the psychoanalytic concept of "narcissism of the small differences" the article's objective is to think how Freud elaborated some ideas on intolerance and to argue the role of psychoanalysis in the history of the theories on tolerance. The author investigates the intolerance to the difference of the other, under the light of Freudian work that involves and attests his sensitivity to the violence that was present during his lifetime. After this journey, she proposes some definitions for the term intolerance - created in the 16th century during the religious wars between Catholics and Protestants - for the field of psychoanalysis.

Keywords : narcissism of the small differences; intolerance; tolerance; racism; nazism.
