Abstract

REIS FILHO, José Tiago dos  and  SANTOS, Gisela de Carvalho. The challenge of psychoanalytic clinic with elderly individuals. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.2, pp. 45-55. ISSN 0103-5665.

This article recounts the experience of an elderly individual's psychotherapeutic treatment that was carried out, with supervision, by a psychology undergraduate student. Old age, as a category, is here discussed, emphasizing its social features as well as psychological aspects. The articulation of concepts such as old age, illness, clinical psychoanalysis and multidisciplinarity, was a challenge presented to the young therapist and her supervisor. In face of that, starting from the concept of extended clinic, we developed a critique of the current health system, which offers precarious support to its users, especially to the elderly population, that is rapidly expanding.

Keywords : oldness; psychoanalysis; extended clinical; multidisciplinarity.
