Career can result from identifications came to fruition during early childhood experiences and identity modifications occurred during adolescence. The concepts of symbolism, reparation and sublimation clarify the process and the inner conflicts in the domain of career choice. This study aims at discussing the psychodynamics of career choice by means of the concepts mentioned above and the narrative produced about the five favorite photos in the Berufsbilder-Test (BBT-Br) by a 17-year-old boy. The qualitative data in his history disclose defensive constituents, corroborated by the quantitative analysis of both the chosen and the rejected factors. The associations established make it possible to understand the youth's career choices as the association link the images which can induce the symbolization process and also lead to the understanding of the data. The BBT-Br has proved useful to help psychologists understand their clients' inner dynamic as well as aspects that can be uses in clinical practice.
