Abstract

MELLO, Renata  and  HERZOG, Regina. Traumatic cleavage and symbolization processes. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.2, pp. 15-27. ISSN 0103-5665.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the psychic apparatus reacts specifically to drive overload from the standpoint of cleavage, in its traumatic dimension. Established during the conceptual turnaround of the 20s, cleavage gains this reference to drive overflow. We begin with the assumption that cleavage actions fall upon psychic experiences that did not achieve representation status. We discuss the possibility of thinking symbolization processes beyond the representative universe, examining the ways in which cleaved aspects of subjectivity persist.

Keywords : cleavage; trauma; drive overload; symbolization processes.
