Abstract

DINIZ, Gláucia R. S.. Marital trajectories and the construction of violences. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.1, pp. 31-41. ISSN 0103-5665.

Interpersonal relationships are marked by affective paradoxes: the same person that loves can be violent towards ones partner. These paradoxes challenge the fields of psychology and of marriage and family therapy. The objectives of this article are: 1. To understand the presence of many forms of violence in marital and family relationships from both a gender and systemic perspective; 2. To point out the impacts of violence in both physical and mental health; 3. To discuss briefly the approach that professionals who work in domestic violence services must have to help women who live in violent relationships.

Keywords : marriage; family therapy; violence; gender.
