Abstract

OSMO, Alan  and  KUPERMANN, Daniel. Trauma and testimony: a reading of Maryan S. Maryan inspired by Sándor Ferenczi. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.3, pp. 471-493. ISSN 0103-5665.

In this paper, we explore the ideas of trauma and testimony through the theoretical reflections of Sándor Ferenczi and the discussion of drawings of the painter Maryan S. Maryan, produced during his psychoanalytic treatment. Ferenczi emphasizes a social dimension in his conception of trauma, in other words, there would be a second stage of trauma consisting of an inadequate reaction of the environment, when the subject tries to express on an experience of violence suffered. The idea of testimony, despite not being specifically a psychoanalytic concept, points to the issue of communication involving a subject who speaks and other(s) who listen(s), when the subject tries to express about a traumatic experience. Maryan, a survivor of the genocide perpetrated against the Jews during the Second World War, had great difficulty in his psychoanalytic treatment to speak, and, after a suggestion of his psychoanalyst, made use of drawings to express his suffering related to the experiences of violence he lived.
