Abstract

TRISKA, Vitor Hugo Couto  and  D'AGORD, Marta Regina de Leão. Theoretical reflections on contemporary psychoanalytic diagnosis. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.2, pp. 349-364. ISSN 0103-5665.  http://dx.doi.org/10.33208/PC1980-5438v0030n02A08.

This article discusses the logic and the limits of psychoanalytic diagnostic rationality based on the triad neurosis, psychosis and perversion, regarded as correlated to the totemic conception of culture proposed by Freud. For this purpose, we first examine some works found in the psychoanalytic literature that explore current clinical issues in a dialogue with culture, which allows for the recognition of a common explanatory hypothesis about contemporaneity, namely the paternal deficit. A critical analysis of this hypothesis warrants the question about the deficits of psychoanalytic theory itself in the face of a cultural context that allegedly unveils ruptures and differences when compared to the one in which psychoanalysis emerged, which relates to the matter of the scope of contemporary psychoanalytic diagnosis and its need for reformulation. Finally, this article suggests non-universalist conceptions of culture and localized structures as theoretical solutions to the impasses confronted by contemporary psychoanalysis.

Keywords : psychoanalysis; diagnosis; contemporaneity.
