Research in psychoanalysis is an issue surrounded by confusion. This paper makes a historical summary of the problem, posing the strong criticism of Adolf Grünbaum in relation to clinical methodology. The author suggests that this criticism should be addressed with the use of the notion of clinical thought proposed by André Green, as well as a more precise description of what we do and how we think the analytical situation. Extra-clinical empirical researches, do not seem to be the best solution to encounter the criticism brought forth by philosophers of science.
