SCHAFFA, Sandra Lorenzon. Pierre Fédida and currant freudian models: evolution of theory and practice in psychoanalysis. J. psicanal. [online]. 2006, vol.39, n.71, pp. 101-123. ISSN 0103-5835.
The paper reflects on the evolutionary problem of psychoanalytical theory and practice based on Freudian experience considered, not as a systematic theoretical corpus, but as a text offering the analyst an opportunity to be interrogated from his personal analytic experience and clinical practice. From this point of view, the unveiling of the theory by the analyst departs from a Freudian disposition regarding knowledge: the analytical theory as a result of working, not only working-over (Verarbeitung), but working-through (Durcharbeitung). Pierre Fédida's work is recognized as a fertile path (Weg) for exploring the heuristic power of the analytic situation as a resource of amplification of technical psychoanalytic specification which does not restrain itself to the stability of metapsychological concepts but leads to flexible psychoanalytic clinical models. Exploring the pathologies showing characteristics of the negative function, Fédida is interested in the symptom's negativity, considering it from the perspective of elementary psychic operations (identification, projection, transference) in constituting (intrinsically theoretical) the symptom. The discussion of a clinical fragment, an example of a negative therapeutic reaction, demonstrates the symptom's transferential work where its function of negativity is a possibility of technical expansion. Due to the analyst's condition of allowing herself to be transformed by the negative action of the symptom in transference, the access to legibility (readability) of sedimented marks might arise from symptom formation. The negative therapeutic reaction brings the issue of negativity which constitutes the transference's interlocutor (Fédida) in the analytic situation and is consistent with Freud's view that the psychic is not observable unless by a metapsychological vision which delivers to the symptom the condition of language.
