COELHO JUNIOR, Nelson Ernesto  e  GETLINGER, Patricia Vianna. Frontiers in the clinical work with borderline patients. J. psicanal. [online]. 2006, vol.39, n.71, pp. 151-169. ISSN 0103-5835.

This paper aims to describe and analyze the common elements (and some contrasting elements) within the clinical work involving two patients considered borderline. Both countertransferential experiences are described in dialog with theories proposed by different analysts about their work with so-called difficult patients. The paper also aims to elaborate the relation of these experiences to the subjacent transferential elements. Regarding the transferential reactions, the following aspects are emphasized: the fragility of the ego boundaries, separation and intrusion anxieties, and the patient's split ego functioning. The countertransferential effects of this type of ego functioning and transferential standard, particularly those related to the impact on the sense of identity of the analyst and those related to the analyst's "psychic elasticity" are other ideas to be developed within this text.
